Last I checked, the International Telecommunications Union defined 3G in a Mobility environment as needing a peak rate of greater than 144kbs. So, what does that make CDMA2000? And for the operators to upgrade to the next revision to 307kbs will essentially be a software (very cheap) upgrade only. QCOM is already shipping chips that support that. I pity the GPRS group.

FOMA is supposed to have a peak rate of 384kbs, that seems to be unreliable.
