OT: Just lurking. They could fix futbol (soccer) but FIFA and the rest are very unwilling to make any changes in the sport, unlike American sports like football or basketball where the rules seem to change every couple of years. Baseball shows a similar intransigence. You could eliminate the beanball, for example, by giving a hit batter 2nd base rather than just 1st base like a walk. There would be very few instances where a pitcher was willing to put a player in scoring position. You could also fine/suspend/expel pitchers who went beyond a certain number of beanballs in a season/career, etc.

As for futbol/soccer, what keeps the game down is, frankly, a lack of scoring. Yes, for those who love the game it's the pattern of it all, but you wouldn't disrupt the pattern if you changed certain rules to facilitate scoring. For example? The main reason people don't score is because defenses are packed in. You could limit the number of players permitted on either side of the center line. If you only permitted 5 or 6 persons on either side of the line, then you'd open up the field quite a bit more. Attackers would be attacking 5 on 5 or 6 on 6 in a bigger space. You could also enlarge the goals by a foot or so in each direction.

It would be a shock to begin with, but people would adjust. They could also use at least a 2nd if not a 3rd referee (if you've ever ref'd a futbol/soccer game, you'll know that you can't begin to see everything).

Btw, isn't it time they raised the NBA baskets to 11 feet?
