It's good that you are differentiating. It's true that there is no evidence that more manufacturing capacity would be in Intel's best interest. Given the direction that market demand has taken, there is actually evidence that the added manufacturing capacity could be a disadvantage, if all that it will be used for is CPU production. However, I think Intel intends to do more with their capacity than just build CPUs. A recent article that came across here a month or so ago spoke of an Intel initiative towards 90nm based communications equipment, which would be a generation ahead of their competitors at the time. I think there may be other initiatives towards smaller manufacturing in other devices from Intel, so saying that the capacity is worthless at this point in time is premature. Intel may actually have a good use for it.
