is it true Canada once had a supersonic plane called the Arrow built by Avro? what the hell happened? pussy government?

Well Jeff, The world wants to know, and you will hear it first here. (Another global exclusive).

I posed your question to an old personal friend, mentor, and professor of mine: The Honorable Pierre Sevigny, who was Deputy Minister under Dief.

Prime Minister Diefnebaker and the Minister of Defense at the time, George Pearkes were blamed for the biggest blunder in Canadian Aviation History for having scrapped the 7 plans built at the time.

"Not true" according to Mr. Sevigny. It was Crawford Gordon, A.V. Roe's boss himself who scrapped the plans, enraged at the government's decision to cancel the project because of its spiralling costs. Mr. Sevigny also told me the fuel capacity was not adequate for the type of usage the Canadian Air Force required. He also mentioned that the US was not against the project.

Mr. Sevigny now 80, still lectures in my home town of Montreal at McGill and Concordia School of Business. He was also the man whose affair with a German women, Gerda Munsinger, caused a furore over potential security risks, and resulting in the defeat of the Conservatives and the end of Tory rule in Canada.

Fasinating stuff, thanks for asking.
