A nice sized living room, a couple of rooms in the basement, one of which is for storage/laundry, the other we will probably let my son use as a bedroom/sitting- room for when he has friends over, or just wants privacy. A smallish kitchen, though well- equipped. Two bedrooms, not large, but comfortable. The yard is small. The front has a little hill, and I will have to figure out how to get one of my brothers, who is confined to a wheelchair, safely up to the house. It is doable, I just need to work on it once settled. I passed on a bunch of places because I could not see how to fix that problem. There is ivy by the concrete steps, and some bushes and trees. The backyard has a small flagstone patio, with a cover, in case of rain. The yard is small (which suits me), and has several trees, one of which is rather large. The root systems are taking over from the grass. We wanted to be comfortable, but not have much upkeep, and this fills the bill. Our street is filled with comparably modest houses, but the development is overall more affluent looking. The great thing is the location. It is right off the Washington Beltway--- I mean, a few blocks from the exit onto Wisconsin Avenue/Rockville Pike. It is above the National Institutes of Health campus, but only about 5 minutes from downtown Bethesda, where my mother now lives. It is perhaps 15 or twenty minutes from the District line, and about a 15 minute drive to the college my son will attend in the fall. Depending upon traffic and route, one might make it to dowtown Washington in about a half an hour, give or take several minutes. There is a Metro (subway) stop very near, with Ride- on buses, and a bus stop about a block away. We will probably cut an hour off of my wife's commute, certainly cut it roughly in half. My favorite delicatessen is about 15 minutes away; my favorite Lebanese Restaurant is about 20 minutes away; and my favorite French restaurant is about 30 minutes away. We are better positioned in respect of museums, the quality of movie houses, and many other things.......
