No, in the late 50s and early 60s, trust me as I grew up then, the threat from nuclear war was real. Dirty bombs, the world dying. It was a scary time for kids. The US and USSR had enough nukes to kill the population of the world 10 times plus the fall out from the old bombs.

Try to imagine grade school kids wondering about how to survive a nuclear war. Nuclear winter, world wide deadly radiation. Cockroaches as being the only thing alive. It was scary.
