I do not know why. I've never understood it. One of the projects the 4th graders do is to build a mission. Most kids buy a KIT from a craft store. Yes, Virginia, they actually have a kit, and it isn't cheap. From what I've seen most of the kits are put together by the moms. The missions are displayed in the library so I've seen a lot of them. Some of them have model railroad plants and are amazingly detailed. The kids aren't learning anything, the parents are spending a ton of money, and kids who do not have money or access to a parents time feel terrible. It is rotten.
