Re: Intel will manufacture complete servers and other components based on its upcoming Itanium 2 processor

OEMs can't be bothered to measure Itanium's motherboard and find which cases it fits in?

Meanwhile, everyong is pouring resources into chipsets for Hammer:

ACER LABS INC or ALi, as they like to be known, is working hard on their Hammer chipsets, we learned in Taiwan... More competition means more quality for the price, as we like to say
theinquirer.net

... and a single source means high prices and nothing to spur innovation or quality.

Could this have anything to do with 700mhz PIII / 2 meg cache having identical performance to 800mhz / 4 meg cache Itanium?

It took a little over a year, but benchmarks on an Itanium running real world applications finally leaked out - creating quite a stink, as it were.

:-)

The door is wide open for Hammer in the enterprise. Intel FUD killed off PA-Risc and Alpha, RS6000 and Sun are high cost, Itanium performance is awful. This market is AMD's to lose.
