Elmer, Re: "Intel's Fab8 runs legacy processes and will do so for years. Fab18 is fairly modern and there's no need to decommission."

I was talking about the fact that they were physically located in a dangerous part of the world. Intel may have a good reason to relocate their manufacturing to safer ground, even though the fabs would otherwise still be useful.

Re: It's quite comparable to AMD's Fab30 except it puts out far more processors even though they're larger

Yeah? So then why did Intel have to spend $13 Billion on capex to AMD's $1.6 Billion over the past 2 years to maintain a 4 to 1 capacity? According to your statement, one of Intel's older FABs produced enough processors to satisfy about 20% of the market. With AMD supplying 20% of the market, that leaves 60% of the market to be supplied from close to $13 Billion of Intel capex.

What happened? Did most of Intel's capex money wind up in Intel executive's Swiss bank accounts?

You and your yield talk are such blatant nonsense.... It probably indicates an expectation that AMD's yields aren't very good because you have direct knowledge of how absolutely terrible Intel's are.
