I am not suggesting that a good teacher doesn't movtivate her students. Of course she does. So, as you say, at various times does a book, a piece of music, a sight of a bird one doesn't recognize, or many other things.

The issue that was under discussion was whether it was the JOB of the teacher to motivate. And I said I didn't think so, that the job of the teacher was to teach, and the job of motivation was the responsibility of the parents (for younger children) and the student his or her self (as the student grows older). It is a special bonus to find a teacher who also motivates, but that, IMO, is not what defines a teacher.

To put it another way, I think it is the job of the student to come to class ready and willing to learn.
