If you go to www.redhat.com and go to the download section. To start I would use the latest release. it's 7.3. For a newbie I'd guess redhat is as good as any distribution.

Download. redhat.com There are mirrors of the redhat and all distributions.

Installation... redhat.com
and you can find info to answer almost all questions.
sources.redhat.com I found the a mirror at rutgers university that gave 50 to 60 kbytes a second consistantly to download three iso images. Now that is well over a 1 GIG of data. Figure 2 to3 hour per iso image.
