Here are three snippets from AMAT last quarterly report:

"Net sales were $1.16 billion, up 16 percent from $1.0 billion for the first fiscal quarter of 2002,"

"New orders of $1.69 billion for the second fiscal quarter of 2002 increased 51 percent from $1.12 billion for the first fiscal quarter of 2002, "

and

Backlog at the end of the second fiscal quarter of 2002 increased to $3.11 billion, from $2.68 billion at the end of the first fiscal quarter of 2002.

Thus the backlog is at least a solid two quarters of shipments (actually some of it has much longer deliveries), with such a backlog, if the chips people were in a rush to accept deliveries, the orders are there to deliver from.
