<<I don't think I'd be a very good speculator>>
<And yet you try, with the Q?!>

Jay, I do try to time my buying and selling and have historically done okay, so I suppose I'm not the worst monkey in the village.

One is automatically a speculator in that the decision to buy at a particular time is a speculation that the price won't go down subsequently. I can't avoid that aspect of speculation, which is why I buy when everyone seems to be beaten up, sad and selling in a stampede [and sell when it's the opposite].

But I'm not trading on short term movements [other than to alleviate an untenable position when weighed down with debt].
