I actually kind of like the mano a mano thing of the penalty shootout. If the teams can't settle it, let the individuals have at it. Certainly makes for high drama. Also for heartbreak, but that is usually a factor in high drama.

The only thing I don't like about the penalty shootout is the advantage it gives to the Germans. As long as Oliver Kahn is in there it's going to be very hard to beat them on penalties.

LOL !

It's soccer you know, not a carnival or clown parade...

[Unless you have the Italians moaning] -gg

While not desired, PK's are the next best thing after 120 or running like madmen (particularly in Korea's/Japan's weather now)

The real stinky doodoo is ... if they cannot decide on Penalties either, (after so many tries --and I do not remember the number), then they toss a coin... UGLY !

I am not sure about the World Cup, but in the Olympic Games... (in soccer) I understand that once they did just that.... I will research it further, but I am fairly confident that at least one tournament or game was decided so... I will check and confirm.
