GROUND ZERO, Re: I would be cautious about making libelous and/or slanderous public statements about anyone without evidence to document and support those statements I believe that a suit claiming slander or libel would only apply to my statements were I to be making the accusations against a "private" person as opposed to a "public" person. That I am within my rights to accuse Cheney of malfeasance, and he does not have the same rights to attack me legally that would say, an individual who contributes to SI and whose opinions or "facts" are in dispute. Besides which, if Cheney finds that he needs to attack me personally, this country is already lost to fascism. (I'd love to wrangle with him for the "discovery" opportunities during depositions, so he'll never start down that trail. It would backfire on him, big time.) This little sandbox at SI can't be very important, in the scheme of things, and I have no sense that what I post here has much of any impact at all. As 'portage' pointed out, we conceptually solved this case 18 months ago. The accusations haven't changed an iota. The only thing that has changed is that the government is now getting access to records that Cheney has been desperate to hide from the world because they make him look as crooked as a three card monty hustler on Sunset Boulevard. Remember the motto? "If you ain't workin' an angle, you are the angle." Cheney's workin' the angles.
