Gold didn't do anything special in 1987 crash. It had a nice run from early 1985 to Jan 1988, but the fall of 1987 did not provoke a spike.

post, I remember it, vaguely, as being flat. Many knew the market was overpriced, so they set up "portfolio insurance" and a few bought gold as a hedge. Neither worked worth a darn. The crash was too quick.
