That's it exactly, as chomolungma pointed out, AMD and Intel are basically a duopoly. Both rely heavily on their CPU revenues and even if they had a 50-50 split in market share the margins would be so slim that it would be comparable to the airlines. The problem is there are so many tech companies involved in every niche market imaginable.

FWIW- I woke up yesterday morning after having a dream that AMD was that $5 and change... hope I'm wrong. (This is definitely a sign of aging!)
