Pete, that sounds like a good plan, why doesn't someone email AMD. I think they could get $1000 for each 3400+ Hammer if Intel is getting $600 for a 2.53 Ghz P4 ! ( They did get $1000 per 1Ghz Athlon when those first came out ). The question remains whether they CAN execute it.....

that is very likely, imho.

OTOH lets consider Hammer at $200:
1)price is still high enough not to bother TBred sales
2)since it is a paper launch there would be little money lost
3)intel would find itself with overpriced high end chips
4)high end buyers may delay purchase by a month or two waiting for intel to lower the prices
5)intel may increase the prices at low end <=> end of price war
