Hi Jay: some find the idea of a balanced budget a political spin. Some ridicule it as an economical mirage. I find it reasonable, because
a) under balanced conditions, I should have not more and not less at my disposal than what I produced (or hope to produce)
b) under unbalanced conditions, the government should strive to maneuver itself out of the picture, i.e. untertake moves to restore the balance and thus void any needs for governmental strongarming
c) it stresses DC (long-term) components of the economy, while damping anything to do with AC, i.e. short-term election-based etc.

Anybody that says he is able to do whatever is necessary to beat inflation or deflation or recession reminds me somehow of all those among us who know how to call tops and bottoms. A very stretched parallel I admit. To say the least, they're betting on much larger farms and it's not their farms either.
