Jobless claims dip

New claims for unemployment benefits edge down slightly, again below 400,000.
June 20, 2002: 8:41 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - New jobless claims fell slightly in the United States last week, the government said Thursday, staying below a critical benchmark level for the third straight week.

The Labor Department said the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell to 393,000 in the week ended June 15 from a revised 395,000 the prior week. It was the third straight week that new claims were below 400,000, a level that points to a sluggish job market. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com expected 385,000 new claims.
