Ben: <<As I recall, integral to Q's license with China is mandatory use of Q ASICs>>

This may be the "licensing problem" Nokia cited re: its potential CDMA production in China.

How to square this circle?

It could be done by buying Q's 1x chips, but that is probably Nokia's last choice.

Will be very interesting to watch.

And on a broader basis, when and how will Nokia produce a 1x data capable phone for sale anywhere in the world?

Wonder how Texas Instruments is doing on providing the wherewithall?

Best.

Simply put, it said Chinese manufactures MUST USE Qualcomm ASIC's AS LONG AS Qualcomm's chip sets are compeditive in price and function to an alternative CDMA ASIC. This was the agreement to get the reduced domestic royality rate for Chinese manufactures!

First, they'd better learn how to do 1x DATA.
Then there's that nasty GPS problem.
Then there's BREW.

They already have. Phone just came out of the FCC certification system.
NOK E-911 solution is not handset based.
JAVA!
