Everyone has done something dumb that someone smarter then us told us not to do at some point. The best thing the guy could do is admit to you that what he did was foolish, it would be a great relief to him if he did. At that point what could you say to him? Most likely you wouldn't beat him up over it any further. Unfortunately what most people do instead of acknowledging their mistakes and learning from them, they compound them by shifting the blame to someone else.
