How can an impoverished curmudgeon like me get published in FA? same as with anyplace else: write good stuff that closely resembles what the mag usually publishes, send it in, and hope for the best. I gather that the Byford piece was one of those rare situations in which a regular joe sent in an unsolicited manuscript, it struck the editors' fancy, and was accepted without them knowing anything about the guy. Turns out he's the husband of the head of Bain & Co.--a pretty remarkable woman, from what I've heard--but that wasn't known when the piece cleared the bar for publication... tb@maumau.com
