Many skeptics feel that the rise in MSFT on the rumor of higher earnings or guidance was a ramp job, and that they'll actually warn instead. That reasoning and the "as goes MSFT, so goes the market" is what jefferson was referring to, I believe.

Everybody is either looking for the catalyst for a rally or the catalyst for the capitulatory flush right now.
