One of my wife's cousins was a geneologist, of her father's side of the family. According to him, a distant cousin was Emerson's second wife. On her mother's side, the most prominent relative was a great- great- grandfather who was a state senator. One of my sisters- in- law used to own the hottest rock'n'roll nightclub in Washington, during the '80s. There are all sorts of odds and ends. For example, I once had an argument with Robert Reich in Commentary, before he became Secretary of Labor. It was cool when he was nominated, just because of this tangential connection........

N's sister in law has also figured out that on the other side of N's family, they are very distantly related to... Dan Quayle
Could explain a great deal! :-)
