George,

You wrote:

"NO. 3 is the MEDIA people are afraid of it.

99% of the sports journalists know nothing about the sport and are afraid of it since they may not be needed anymore...Self preservation rules...That is the reason why the sport is attacked relentlessly from these people, downright fear about their job and complete ignorance and standard American arrogance. I mean, they have managed to pass the "soccer is boring" mantra...I could never get how such a sport where is non stop action for 90 minutes can be boring vs. a baseball game where you must bribe me to force myself to watch that travesty! Then again, I guess it is in the blood"

I have to agree with you there. The New York Times in particular is a constant source of begrudgery (I can't say that about journalists here in CA who seem to be more open-minded in general). I've lost count of the number of articles penned by old sweats who without making any effort to understand it, claim the game is boring and subtly or not put down its global popularity to foreign inferiority. Retire to the Old Folks Home granddad.

Anyway here are my SF picks that will of course be wrong:

Brazil (by one goal)
Germany (so lucky with the draw this year)
Senegal (first african team in the SFs)
Spain (even the Koreans have to run out of energy sometime)
