Actually, it is not very hard. Justice is tempered by mercy in order to allow for the achievement of the best result. If the best result is penance, reconciliation, and healing, and severity would break the girl, then she ought to be given a chance to be made whole. This would entail reducing her sentence, so that she sees some kind of life ahead of her. Perhaps a sentence of 15 years with the opportunity of parole.......
