Ken,

We kind of went through this last week ;-), Got some good help from this thread. If I may, there is an application to run that shows all the programs that are started. ** msconfig **. Type that in the run box from the start menu. That will bring up a menu box. On the tab you'll see startup. Click that. In the box that comes up is a list of the programs running. You can un-check the programs you do not want launch on start up. There is one little exception... You may have go into your windows file and check the start up file. If the programs that you've un-checked from the msconfig box are listed there, you will have to either create another folder and move those files there, or delete those(I don't suggest that). I have quicken on mine and when I unchecked billminder, it would reappear after the boot. If you move the files to another folder that should keep windows from re-launching it.

Another way to check which programs that are running is to go to your desktop and click ctrl-alt-delete It displays the programs. Those can be shut down by clicking end task. That is a temporary shutdown of those programs. When you reboot they will re-launch. Careful which ones you shut down. May cause your system to freeze and you'll have to reboot. Keep explorer and systray.

If any of this is unclear go back to when steve first popped up on this thread and follow the instructions posted to me. Good stuff.

Also a program called Enditall2 is available for download that will also shut down unwanted programs. It even finds the 'invisible' files. ENDITALL2.ZIP 745kb (763,032 bytes) EndItAll v 2.0 by Neil J. Rubenking © 2001 Ziff-Davis, Inc home.ptd.net Free download but you'll need a zip.
