I'm just waging it too but that extra clock applies to every single L2 access. It might not pay?

I think there is a lot less performance penalty in Athlons from adding extra clock to L2 than P4. P4 already has faster L2 (well, at least Coppermine did) so adding a clock would be biger percentage-wise penalty than than addin a clock to slower L2 on Athlon. L2 on P4 gets a LOT more accesses than L2 on Athlon, since P4 has only 8K data cache, and Athlon has 64K L1 data cache.

The hurdle was set higher on P4, and Intel managed just fine, so AMD should be able to overcome a lower hurdle.
