Some regulatory body defines 3G as minimum data rates of 144 kbps. In that definition, 1X meets the standard with its peak rate. I agree that the whole 3G labelling issue is a contrivance to exclude an evolutionary standard that is bumping up on the performance features of the 3G standard. The pathetic thing is that guys like Faver don't even know about these issues and dismiss the performance in the closest thing to 3G out there right now as a possible reason for Qualcomm's performance. But I think you know all this.
