Put yourself in their place and ask yourself if you would feel the same as you do now.

I have already tried that. We never know how we will deal with certain things until we're faced with them so I can't be sure how I would feel. I know that I have never wanted retribution for anything done to me as an adult. I don't know for sure how I would feel if someone really close to me were murdered, but I imagine I would rather know why than to see the murderer dead. Of course, getting both would be even better.

People in grief and anger will do many things that are not really a good idea.
