Michael Hamdan, a Las Vegas businessman, said he heard the speakers discussing a "hit" on the "day of freedom," which he interpreted to mean the U.S. Independence Day. "We're aware of the allegations by Mr. Hamdan. We're taking them very seriously," said FBI Special Agent Daron Borst in Las Vegas. "There is a full scale investigation in process to determine whether this information does constitute a threat and what the nature of that threat might me." Hamdan said he was driving down Las Vegas Boulevard last Saturday when he tried to dial his wife on his cell phone. He did not get through and was about to hang up when he heard voices speaking Arabic. He stayed on the line to listen. According to Hamdan, the speakers said: "We are here in the city of corruption. We are here in the city of gambling and prostitution, the city of the unbelievers. ... We are going to hit them on the day of freedom." Hamdan said there appeared to be a group of people on one end of the line talking with a single man on the other and that they spoke Arabic with an accent from the Gulf area. "I was shocked. I was sweating. I felt cold I was really in a disbelief state about what I heard," he said in an interview with CBS News' "The Early Show." The FBI has been in contact with Hamdan several times and was scheduled to interview him again Friday, officials said.
