OT ... The s&p p/e is a bogus statistic to use.

IMO, it depends on what you are comparing the S&P PE to. If comparing to the PE of an individual stock, I agree it's not a very useful comparison.

Now larry wasn't explicit about what he was comparing the PE to .. so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt .. by believing he was comparing today's S&P PE to the S&P PE at another time.

Such a comparison is useful and perfectly legitimate .. especially if one is fairly sure the positions in the economic cycle are equivalent. JMHO.
