It's also clear they haven't any practical ability in fire-fighting.>> I VERY much like your term "bunny huggers", but be assured, the actual foot soldiers in the war against the fires are good at the job, their management is(fully) at fault for anything in skills of tools! Be assures, though, these "bunny huggers" are no where near the most extreme of the environmental movement! This position is reserved for eco-terrorists from the groups ELF, ALF & a few other cases which threaten death & endanger human live for their warped views of nature & animals. These scum have: Released cattle onto 75 M.P.H(120 K.P.H.)highways where families & business people commute to Denver Burned in process of being built - sold - homes business, & even a ski lift endangering their "dear" forests Broken into, released animals used for drug testing then only to euthanatize the animals which no longer(or never did)have the ability to live in nature. <<think it is very worrying and indeed frightening how, every year, there are major forest fires over half of the US. It strikes me that something is very wrong if such extensive fire hazards exist across the country without anything preventive being done about it.>> Problem is there is NO cutting of timber allowed(even thinning) in much of western US forests. Were even the dead, diseased, & undergrowth taken out the fires would be far less severe, were the absolute best plan installed / returned, where-by a patchwork of 3-12 ac tracts are strip cut & replanted, ("strip" meaning a swatch the width of two pieces of logging equipment then skip a swatch)- the fire season might return to far more normal! <<In fact, I would go so far as saying that the threat to life and property from fires, like the ones we are witnessing, is umpteen times greater than from "terrorism".>> Except rural populations are SMALL, compared to the population which might be lost in a major city. The number - short term? - displaced from the (near Denver) Hayman fire is only near the number killed in N.Y.C. 9-11! I'm sure a burning death in in the W.T.C, is far worse than staying in a H.S. gym while worring about your home burning. While both are terrible & suck beyond words, I choose life.
