BREW is the only end-to-end solution other than Microsoft. I think Java will be the second choice of application developers because it is such a headache (added cost) to adapt to the flavors of J2ME being run by the carriers.

Bad things for BREW:

Verizon rolling it out on 2G phones
Lack of 3G handsets.
Waiting, waiting for the 1xrtt launch.

But I do think that the developers have caught wind that BREW is easier to write to. Sprint will eventually figure out that it is in Qualcomm's value chain and will never be anything more than a pariah in the NOK-ERICY-MOT crowd.
