Duke: Greenspans JOB is to keep inflation in check.

A point which I made the entire time he was raising rates. It was not his job to attack markets. He was concerned that increasing oil prices would bring on inflation ignoring the simple fact that it works more like a tax and is fiscally restraining. It is time for that guy to go. We did not need the rate hikes to hold back inflation as there was none. But if his aim was to bring about deflation well then well done AG. He now rants on about how remarkable productivity gains have been. Well then if assets are so much more productive then 1. There is no need to fear inflation and 2. The assets that are so much more productive should be that much more valuable.JFD

Duke:evisceration of the TELE Dereg Act, which blew the communications industry out the window. We agree here. I honestly feel that deregulating the underegulatable is an exercise in futility. Trying to change Ohms Law via fiat is absurd. Trying to pretend that there is more than one phone connection from the CO to the end of the loop is insane. Trying to turn undifferentiated commodity service into free-market products is like trying to stuff a square peg in a round hole. You can add the airlines to this entire conundrum as well.JFD

Duke: Why don't the politicians make better use of the net? Probably because they figure much of the constituency doesn't pay much heed to same but they are wrong. The up and comers and they retireds are spending a lot of time on it. They should be clever enough to use it effectively. I think they have overlooked its power big time. I think as broadband increases it will be a force to be reckoned with and in time will surpass the tube. In fact I see convergence coming of age sooner than later.JFD
