D3: Lucent is a good example as far as history and IP and ongoingness is concerned but they screwed things up by all the debt they took on off and on the balance sheet. There biggest mistake was lending $ to the CLEC's they should have known what the RBOC's would do to those guys. I mean you can't get around the CO and the wires in the wired comm. business. What were they thinking?JFD

Dan,

One more thing to consider is that designing and manufacturing a uP is extremely difficult. Look at the competitive landscape and you see the carcasses of many companies. Technically, both Advanced Micro Devices and Intel are the "survivors".

I do not envy any company that attempts to compete against AMD or INTC in the uP arena.
