I wouldn't want to try to sell that movie to the principal
at least not without taking out the almost x-rated sex scenes

What I found most moving was the way Letitia yelled at her son, and beat him, over his eating. Here is a woman who clearly really really loves her son, but is at her wits end trying to deal with him and his self destructive behavior. And then he dies, and you just KNOW she is remembering the things she regrets about her relationship with her son. So much love and pain mixed up in a movie. It was hard to watch, but very moving.

I have been against the death penalty for a while now. And eye for an eye is not the business I want the state to be in. I understand the human need for eyes on the part of victims, but that should not drive the system, in a humane civilization. I just watched a movie that was sort of along the lines of "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"- if you video store has "Behind the Sun" rent it. It is subtitled, but very moving. I know you will like it.
