Yeah I know, I never sold that THING funny huh? I went in the Transfer Agent in Downtown Reno and bought a Shareholders list and had the crumpled thing in my hand. I had just taken that PIX of it at the Atlantis Casino Hotel in the 10th story room window sill. No rude awakening but after the CECE & Co DTC Street Name( is that right?) shares and the Rockford and Officers shares - like I am the 5 largest certificate holding dam SHAREHOLDER! That turkey company at least made me famous in my research capabilities tho not rich! Or did it, I got a dozen chances of PR Jobs becuse folks KNEW ME FROM...drum roll...NUKE FUSION star and Dispersed Gallium made me ( now I guess )rich in my current investments, I have no PR Job with GCU -t think about it V-bud. I spent an extra $1,000 to do the tour and stay a few extra days...THE CORDERO GALLIUM MINE!

The new guys selling that FUSION STAR i assume from left over Daimler Chrysler DASA EDADS and actually NUKE Rhombic had a real JV with those folks THEY { not Rhombic Corp BROKE APART as was not economical}inventory ought to have his head examined, there is just a PROTON ELECTRON SOURCE and Hellium By Product and NON ECONOMICAL DESKTOP FUSION has no need to have a comment about a bomb, ugg. This is THE NEW MARKET of study that I learned from RHOMBIC in their failed SiGa CHIP:""...
Zarlink Introduces New Class of Light Emitting Diode for Emerging POF (Plastic Optical Fiber) Market

High-efficiency ZL60003 RCLED (resonant cavity light emitting diode) is key component for high-speed, short-distance links in POF applications JARFALLA, SWEDEN, June 19, 2002 – Zarlink Semiconductor (NYSE/TSE:ZL) today announced immediate availability of a new class of LED for emerging high-speed POF applications in homes, offices, and factories. The ZLTM60003 is a RCLED that uses highly efficient semiconductor structures to convert electronic signals into precise, high-speed light pulses that illuminate POF with an attractive red glow.

The ZL60003 is a key component for creating high-bandwidth, short-distance connections over POF to link personal computers, storage devices, digital cameras, STBs (set-top boxes), and other products. Over 50 meters of POF, the device transmits data at up to 500 Mb/s (megabits per second).

Zarlink’s ZL60003 meets IEEE 1394b, the new industry standard for high-speed POF transmission released in April 2002 by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The standard includes specifications for high-performance serial connections over POF, reflecting the growing use of plastic fiber in Japan and other countries for high-speed, short-distance links. POF can carry more data over longer distances than Category 5 copper cabling, costs less and is easier to install than glass optical fiber.

“Zarlink’s lead customers in Japan are using the ZL60003 to design high-performance optical ports in electronic equipment for homes, offices, and factories,” said Bengt Ehrensparre, product line manager, Zarlink Semiconductor. “By connecting these ports with plastic optical fiber, users can more quickly and efficiently download images from scanners or digital cameras to PCs, exchange files between set-top boxes and digital TVs, or transfer storage data to remote disks.”

ZL60003 RCLED one of industry’s fastest

RCLEDs are semiconductor structures that use resonant cavities to bounce light off mirror-like surfaces in a highly efficient manner. Zarlink’s new ZL60003 is one of the fastest RCLEDs in the industry, supporting data rates of 500 Mb/s over 50 meters of graded-indexed POF, and 250 Mb/s over the same length of step-index POF.

To achieve the high modulation needed to deliver these data rates, the device uses a thin, high-density active area and a small, circular symmetric, 80-µm (micron) aperture. The fields of the light beams pulsed through this aperture have spectral widths of only 20 nm (nanometers), minimizing chromatic (color) dispersion and attenuation. This allows the ZL60003 to maintain fast data rates over longer lengths of POF.

With its low dispersion and laser-like optical beam, the ZL60003 can connect to POF with a simple plug. Unlike glass fiber, with POF there is no need for special alignment equipment and expertise.

As a highly efficient and reliable optical power generator, Zarlink’s ZL60003 is well suited for applications in battery-operated equipment such as portable disk drives, digital cameras and digital recorders. Built in an innovative, GaInAlP (gallium indium aluminum phosphide) structure, the device generates 1.5 mW (milliwatts) of optical power from drive currents and input voltages of only 20 mA and 2 V, respectively. In typical operating conditions, its median lifetime exceeds 200 years. The RCLED also requires no threshold current, simplifying the design of drive circuitry on host boards.

The ZL60003 transmits at the 650-nm wavelength, causing it to emit an appealing color of red light. This also opens markets for the device in applications where visible light is required, such as sensing and positioning equipment.

Availability, packaging, and price

The ZL60003 is in volume production. The RCLED is offered in two formats: in hermetically sealed, TO-46 lens packages, and as bare die that can be packaged to suit individual applications. In 1k quantities, TO-46 units cost US$13.00 each. Please visit products.zarlink.com for more information.
