this man... became involved with my Grandma, who was called Elisabeth then, and not 'Grandma," and her mother found out about it. And forced Grandma to marry Grandpa. Grandma told me that it was out of jealousy. An odd story, no? Wouldn't the conventional course of parental action be more along the lines of sending the girl to a boarding school someplace far away, or threatening to have the socialist locked up, or discouraging him in more vigorous terms, if he persisted in his attentions? Forcing the girl to marry someone else seems a bit baroque, but I guess truth is often stranger than fiction. I guess we'll never know. An odd story, though, and a sad one.
