Searle, Raising the debt ceiling is not a good thing, as it shows a failure in living within your means. This (only spending what the taxpayers give you) has not happened in our government for quite some time. Clinton was the master at getting the debt ceiling raised.

"It would hurt the poor people, and those on fixed incomes. The Republicans are fixing to shut down government as we know it." I always thought that they should call his bluff, and now it is the democrats time to step up and shut down the government.

Is it bad? No worse than any other time that we have had to raise the debt ceiling. Only one problem!
We already have an unprecedented debt that may have to be defaulted on if money quits coming in from the buyer of the bonds to support this debt, the financial markets are already upset, and corporate accounting woes does not need any other help in weighing on stock prices or pressuring the dollar. That is occurring as we dicker on the debt ceiling. Maybe if we blame it all on the debt ceiling, no one will notice all the other problems.

It has always amazed me that to get ones way we must yell, and tell everyone that the sky will fall if what we want does not occur.

The US economy is already in trouble. We have lived to excess, and now it is time to pay for those "good" times. Debt, both government, corporate, and personal must be paid off. This will take time.
