Steve den Beste has an excellent blog tonight denbeste.nu We shouldn't think of our enemies as mindless animals, but we can't assume that they're motivated by the same things that we are. It's important to understand just how much different their culture is from ours, so as to understand how they will interpret our actions entirely differently than how we intend them to be interpreted. Demosthenes has taken the first step of realizing that the Palestinians are complex people. Now he needs to take the second step of realizing just how alien they are. The fact that Demosthenes and I would accept a certain deal if we were Palestinians doesn't mean that the real Palestinians actually will.
