Banc of America Securities downgrades networking gear firms in
report 6/21/02

Analyst Christopher Crespi downgrades Cisco Systems, Ciena, ONI
Systems and Juniper Networks from "strong buy" to "buy", and
downgrades Lucent Technologies, Nortel Networks and Tellabs to
"market performer." Crespi upgraded systems vendors April 1st
expecting to see a recovery in the June timeframe. But that
hasn't happened, and now he doesn't expect any near-term
improvement. He sees continued problems at telecommunications
service carriers and no sign of sustained growth in enterprise
spending. The downturn for equipment firms could stretch well
into next year, Crespi says, and he suggests focusing on
companies' balance sheets and liquidity positions.
