lots of the Arabists at State have gone native

That's a nicer way to put it than I did a few weeks back. I think these guys not only like the culture, they see guys that were there bosses now retired and making good money out of "Consulting" for the Arab states, and they want in on it when they retire. The "House of Saud" are not fools, and they buy a lot of influence here.

I can't believe that Bush is giving this stupid speech. I can't wait to hear what Ambassador Walker will say about it, how to render the US impotent in one easy step would be my guess.

We will support a Palestinian state if the Palestinians start writing the Federalist papers and get rid of the PA, Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Just for good measure, we will add a good finger-wagging at all the Arab neighbors who finance Hizbullah and Hamas as well. Are we going to enforce this "vision" in any way? Not that I can see.

Everything depends on new Palestinian leadership emerging, and real elections being held...how the frip is that supposed to happen? The West Bank is locked down under curfew, and the terrorists hold complete sway over Palestinian politics. Who will remove the thugs with guns that hold Palestinian politics in thrall?
