It's so simplistic dismiss the dp as "sick" that it's a useless exercise, and because they so clearly deny the obvious complexities of human beings and their motivations, such assertions are counter-productive in my opinion.

I'm perfectly aware that many law enforcement people oppose the death penalty. Many support it, too.

I would say this about the "sick" designation though: if a lottery were proposed by which it would be determined which prisoners would die and which live, those who supported the proposal would seem to me... well, sick.

It would be a metaphor, but not an indefensible one.....
