Mike,
I am skeptical too re: managing sadaam but i have to believe we should ally with the devil himself to defeat el quaida decisively and quickly. Bush has let his political capital erode to some extent. John Kerry in particular made much sense on the talk shows. Dems should adopt more aggressive stance to el quaida and those countries that are in cahoots. Iran, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan all must be put on notice that it will be worth their while to switch teams. Intersting comment for Karzai(afgan pm) yesterday sort of guaranteeing bin laden capture before 9/11/02. Hope he is prophetic.
I stood in front of the WTC that day and watch my world blow up in front of me. Still frequently have fits of depression. Have a new grandso and feel so totally inadequate in protecting him. Americans with their heads perpetually in the sand have made el quaida possible. Part and parcel of being capitalist and a democracy. But now we have been attacked and continually threatened. Most americans still asleep at the wheel and i fear it will take another the blast from the islamisists to wake them up. I hope we move forcefully and soon--or all that DDAy-Greatest Generation-Band of Brothers stuff will not carry over to this generation and we will indeed have no future for us, our children or our grandkids. mike
