Oh- I thought it was my typo. TRIN5 is just the sum of the last 5 closing TRIN values. A reading over 8.0 indicates a period of heavy selling has occurred, and is generally coincident with a low point in the market. A reading over 9.0 is very rare, and has generally been coincident with major market low points such as the bear market lows of 1974 or '82- or the end of major corrections in a bull market as in '87 or '97. This looks a lot more like '74 or '82 to me, BWDIK..

Caveat- the past few months have seen at least 8 peaks over 8.0, with none yet producing a bottom. Also, the last >9.0 reading in April of 2001- while producing a tradeable low- did not coincide with the ultimate lows. That's a first, as previously, there was never a lower low over the next year after a 9.0 reading. Another indication that this bear market is one for the ages. Unlike any in the past 50+ years. No doubt we'll be telling our grandkids about it.

You've got to keep your head about things though. As bad as its been- Odds are that another 9.0+ reading would be the last one we'll see for many years, as 4 years has previously been the shortest period between readings ..
