Actually, I hadn't been talking about the death penalty, myself, although I will defend it if you like. I would say that the death penalty should be reserved for first degree murder with aggravating circumstances. Since the principal of proportionality is important to uphold, and death is the severest penalty we can visit upon a felon, especially after renouncing various forms of torture, then it must be reserved for the most extreme cases, so that the peculiar horror of them might be calibrated.It is also conducive to making a man review his life, and get his affairs, both temporal and spiritual in order.........
