RE:"it'll be way too expensive to patrol all of our borders. I'd rather have a little less privacy in all public areas than a costly Wall of America."

First, we have to establish that there is a difference between legal and illegal immigration.
John loves to use the reactionary, "we are all immigrants" thing. Sure our ancestors were but there were laws then, just like now.
As far as costs...well, what is the ultimate cost of uncontrolled borders? The Army is playing army anyway. Let them play it by patrolling the borders.

RE:"I'd rather have racial profiling (to an extent) than a massive round-up of illegal immigrants, 99% of whom love America."

I'm not talking about no immigration, no visas...just legal. As it is we have no control of the borders.

RE:"Maybe by combining a better policy on immigration with good old conservative values, liberals will be less able to buy the minority vote with handouts."

I think it's got to the point where it's a vote thing.
Probably why we won't see Bush tighten up on the borders.
