Funny thing is, about 40 years ago, companies tended to treat their employees with love, respect, honor and dignity. Didn't give much thought to how the public perceived them.

You must have lived in a different time warp than I did. The way I remember it, management was d**n near God back then. I worked at GE. They locked the plant doors at 8 AM. If you arrived after that, the guards had t unlock the doors and you had to sign in. Your boss was notified each time this happened. If it happened 5 tmes in a year, you were handed your head. Lotsa love, respect, and dignity in that.

You like the Good Old Days? Get a time machine. The Good Old Days weren't all that good.

Times change. 40 years ago Japan, Taiwan, Korea, et al were 3rd world and certainly no challenge to the American economic juggernaut. That changed a while back, in case you didn't notice. American companies had to adapt to a new reality or be eaten by the competition.
